Overview: ***This course is additionally Approved by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry for purposes of granting certification under KRS 313.040 for Medical Emergencies Course for Dental Hygienist to obtain or maintain general supervision registration per 201 KAR 8:563. Section 15.** CDE: 3 hours Overview Medical Emergencies are frightening events, no matter when or where they happen and they are even more frighting when we are unprepared. Learn to be prepared for, recognize and properly respond to Medical Emergencies when they happen in your dental office! This course we will teach you how to prepare a proper emergency kit, create an effective emergency plan, recognize the early signs and symptoms of common medical emergencies and how to provide the appropriate treatment. When a Medical Emergency happens, there are no second chances and it is your training and preparation that will make the difference between life and death for your patients. Since we don’t utilize these skills each and every day, regular review is important so that we can all be more confident if, and when, a real Medical Emergency occurs. Objectives

Dr. Julius N. Manz is currently the Director of the Dental Hygiene Program at San Juan College. He is a native New Mexican, having been born and raised there after his parents emigrated to the United States from Germany. He attended the University of New Mexico obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics. After college he spent the next 10 years as a Naval Submarine Officer and Nuclear Engineer. After resigning his commission in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander he attended dental school at the University of Colorado. Dr. Manz practices general dentistry in Farmington, NM is a Professor and the Director of the San Juan College Dental Hygiene Program. He is a past president of the New Mexico Dental Association, delegate to the American Dental Associations House of Delegates and currently serves as the Treasurer of the New Mexico Dental Association. He extensively writes and lectures on dental related matters. He has two boys Noah and Josiah and is married to the most wonderful woman in the world, Jean. Cathie Collier holds a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene Education from the Fones School of Dental Hygiene, where she served as clinical coordinator and a Master’s degree from The Graduate Institute in Integrative Health and Healing. She is a national lecturer, key opinion leader and publish author. She is the owner and director of A Healthy Education. Her company serves through out New England and New York providing in person and live webinar training for dental and medical healthcare providers.
